2050 voice degradation issue

We have found at a couple locations that when the user is using the softphone and then accessing applications from their laptop, their voice quality degrades. I understand that this is an issue with the CPU of the laptop. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Are the applications local, or are they accessing items over the network? If they're remote connected over VPN and accessing files over the network, that could explain things.
