I want to backup a 200ICP Rel 4.0.5.17 using a ftp backup. I can do this if I am local to the switch but cannot remotely. The response I get back when trying this is ftp server is not running or wrong address. I know my ftp server is running but not sure about the address part. That is what I think I have wrong. I am on a dynamic connection where I am trying this. Thanks in advance.

Probably due to security blocking FTP thru the router

you have to program the ftp server address in form 47 a restart is NOT required

Thanks for the replies. I eliminated the router and same problm. I think it might be in my setup of my computer and the ftp server. The IP/router I am accessing is a 204.xxx.xxx.xxx and the setup of the ftp in form 47 I have as 192.168.1.9. Question what setup should I have in form 47 and what if any in my pc accessing remotely? Thanks

run an ipconfig /all on your pc find the ip that is your remote address and enter it in form 47 for ftp server address

The quickest way to test the FTP on your laptop is to open a Command Prompt window, FTP into your own address and try to create a file in the FTP directory.

Your router at the office needs to have a public IP address. In the router database you need to set port 21 (ftp) to go to a PC of your choosing; that is a PC that is inside the network that the router serves. In other words you'll enter the IP address of that PC in the port-map of your router. Of course you will also need to have an ftp session open on that machine. In Form 47 you need to enter the Public IP of your router (FTP Server) and program a name for FTP Username and a password for FTP Password. You should also program the gateway IP, though I'm not sure if that's needed. We use a linksys router to connect to the PBX and the internet, either directly or off of a Internet Access Server / Router.

Let's take a step back here. So your switch has an IP of 204.x.x.x Is this a public address to the rest of the world? I see that your laptop has an ip of 192.168.x.x. This address is what is called a class C and is only used for private networks, your switch will never be able to connect directly to that address over the internet.

Tell us a little more about how you are setup. You said you wanted to do remote backups over the internet, right?

Can you ping the switch from where are you at right now?

from the ideas put forward I am now able to do an ftp backup, thanks. Another question from the same computer I can now do the ftp backup would any other ports have to open up to do the same ftp backup another switch but thru a vpn? I did an ftp backup on one switch and then with the same setup tried thru a vpn and no way.

So we're talking about a different switch, but through a VPN? Make sure port 21 isn't being blocked along the way in/out. Make sure your IP's all match up in the switch. Can you telnet/ssh into the switch over this VPN? Make sure you can even hit it first.

I can access the different switch but no ftp backup thru the vpn, I will check port 21, thanks ToMaC82, I will try and update.

Same as I said before. You need to open port 21 in the VPN router and direct it to a predermined machine within your office network. If you're trying to access the VPN itself, remember, you have to log into the VPN when you access it, The Mitel won't log into the VPN, only the FTP server.

I believe I have all the ports open at my end, at the other end is a VPN thru a 6000MAS. Is there an option in the 6000MAS I may not have enabled?
