Howdy folks,

Wonder if somebody could help me. A friend of mine has asked me if it's possible to put a 200GB hard drive in her HP Pavilion 512n. I've managed to establish that it has a '
Trigem Lomita' motherboard but cannot find whether this will support a drive of this size.

Does anybody know if this will work or if there's a program she can run that will test if the board is capable ??

Thanks in advance

That would be a useful tool - I've not seen one.

Well, while you are trying to find the info, you could try am email to HP support. Its worth a shot?

There's going to be several things to consider:

First of all, whether your BIOS can see a 200 GB hard drive. If it can with a BIOS flash, go ahead. If not, you're just plain outta luck.

Second of all, whether your OS can see the hard drive. I installed a 160GB hard drive recently and needed to jump through several hoops to get Windows to see it all. You need, at a minimum Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 (Windows XP works too) and to enable 48-bit LBA support. Check out my thread to see me details on this:

Oh and I found the product information page for that laptop:
