2008R2 print server custom filters

I notice you can have a custom filter for printers. This will allow me to email someone that a print queue is stuck and so on. My question is, how can I use the "run a script" to my advantage. Are there some variables that I can take advantage of and pass into a script. What I am getting at is...I would like to be able to notify my "Nagios" server when something is down or a queue is backed up.

Any ideas?
