What is the purpose of the computer object in AD that Server 2008 creates when you enable clustering?

If I'm not mistaken that object holds the cluster name and related info. You have (presumably) two nodes to your cluster that exist as physical devices, but applications and users referring to the cluster need to refer to them by the cluster name. The cluster name will redirect them to whichever of the nodes is actually holding the cluster resource at the time.
