2008 backup

the backup that comes with 2008 sbs, how does it handle open files ?
we have a data base running perservise.

will there be a conflict ?

It's not a file-level backup, it's a block-level backup. It uses VSS, the same technology that does ShadowCopies, to quiesce files and databases before taking a snapshot. It shouldn't have trouble with locked files, since it doesn't care about individual files and it stops the file system from being written to during the few seconds it takes to make the snapshot.
