Just starting to scratch the surface of the new features in 2008's Terminal Services, but I'm getting the feeling that Windows can now do everything Citrix is doing for us. Load balancing (without windows enterprise edition) and application management..

Curious if anyone else has looked into this as an alternative to Citrix as well?

So far my opinion of 2008 is a good one. I know it's early and still in demo, but everything I've thrown on it so far has worked great..

We are primarily interested in the SSO feature of it. To date, we have not been able to get it to work correctly yet. If you have tried it successfully, I would like to know.

Haven't tried it yet.. we're waiting for the official release before doing any major testing. Just got it installed and messing with a few of the small things right now.

There are three things that I like very much in the new Windows 2008 TS:
1. The TS Gateway
2. Application publishing
3. Session broker (now available for standard edition too).

A series of screencasts demonstrating the new features in Windows 2008 TS will be published next week on our web site.

Dean

Yes, the TS gateway is a really nice item for a couple of my clients needing SSL access, VPN is just took much work.
RC speed is great in 2008 server, at least with a Dell 2900II, hard to believe I was accessing remotely.

Another area 2008 excels in, file caching, phenomenal for small files... the area Win 2000 and 2003 ignored. Hard to get raid disk access during benchmarks with files under 30 Meg. Useless running IOmeter, without major parameter changes, the disks rarely blink.

Chernobyl disaster..a must see pictorial

for you guys using the TS Gateway already, if I remember right, doesn't it take a component that is only included in Vista SP1/XP SP3? Is this still the case? I think I tried using this once before but couldn't actually use it because I didn't have a required component on my browser machines.. Is this thing publicly available yet? Sorry for calling it "thing" I don't remember what it was off the top of my head..

disregard my last post.. XP3 wasn't available the last time I checked out TS Web. It's working for me now!

However, in order for someone to use RDP from the ts web site, it would require us to have port 3389, or whatever port we've got it configured for, to be open on the firewall right? So it's not exactly doing rdp over SSL.. hmm

Whats you thinking so far snootalope. We're thinking about a TS deployment but a couple of companies that we've contacted have recommended Citrix but non of them offer 2008 yet. I don't want to go down a more expensive route to discover in a few months that 2008 is upto the job.
