I have 3 computer needing to use the same database , add records etc.
I found out the 2007 shut of the add/ delete but I don't know where to turn it on?
Its supposed to be on the Database tools TAB? right in front?????
Can someone help me.
In the Xp Pro Machine (machine #1) where back-end resides if I right click sharing and security on the folder where the BE resides... then click the General TAB. The read only button is a slightly green square. click once the slight green goes away (white), second time it shows green check mark, third time back to slight green. If I click Apply button when it's white it says "Do you want to unset read only on just folderor all sub folders". ( I tried both options). I click apply then OK then open it back up and it's still slightly green.
So this morning after turning everything off last night I can add a record on the machine it resides on. But when I turn on another machine and try to add a record, its gives message "You can't go to the specified record". And... then back on machine #1 it now says same message "You can't go to.... "
Background: This is a 3 computer work group not a domain So I did some testing. Machine #1 CAN add records if no other machine has the db open. the others can't even if Machine 1 does NOT have it open.
Machine #1 with the database backend can't add records if another machine has the db open. They are connected to an Linksys Ethernet switch, connected to a cable modem.
Obviously all 3 can see each other on same workgroup and I can see all three in Network Places in the workgroup on Machine #1.
Machine #1 is XP Pro, #2 is Windows 7 Pro, #3 is XP Pro.
So it has to do with sharing on that folder.
Any advice, this is suppose to be a "Auction" program to help the church with the Annual silent auction. It was done manually with paper, calculators at the end of the night when every one want to go home. So it is way too clumsy & time consuming to say the least.
I'm not sure what you need to do to set up security in the operating systems. Every user should be able to find the folder in Windows Explorer and then create and delete files. If they can't, your application will allow only one user at a time.
