I have a maintenance plan that was running perfectly until a couple of days ago. I found out that another admin had to remove our normal AD accounts from the domain administrator role. I had been assuming that maintenance plans ran under the local system account however it looks like it was running under the account of the creator (me).
I want to set up a service account to run the plans under. I've created an AD account, made that account a local admin on the SQL server, created a login in SQL and granted that login full sysadmin rights.
On the maintenance plan, when I try to edit the connection properties to use this account the login fails. I've tied to log in as me as well to no avail. (I had to regrant my own account sysadmin rights to access the server through SSMS, but that now works.
The SQL server is using mixed mode authentication. (Everything originally worked because I had made Domain Admins sysadmins. I know that's not the best practice but it's OK for our environment.)
I figure I'm missing some obvious step, but I need someone else to tell me what it is. Thanks.
