2003 won't connect to WSUS server

I've got a 2003 server that I can't get to show up on the WSUS server. The instructions that I found on Microsofts site are pretty vague. I know there are registry changes that I have to make and I suspect that is where my problems are.

Does anyone have any step by step instructions for modifying the registry?
