Hi,

I had some questions regarding how the Windows 2003 CALs are used. I currently have one Windows 2003 terminal server and am looking to put in one or two more. The current server I have setup for per device licensing, when I put in new terminal servers will I need to purchase more CALs? Since I am doing per device should I be able to connect to the new servers or do I need to buy new CALs for the new servers? How do the CALs work and how are they assigned?

Thank You,
braheem

The licenses should be assigned via a central license server which should hopefully exist on a DC.

If you have purchased Per Device rather than Per Server CALs then I do not believe you will need to purchase additional licenses.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

do you mean CALS or TSCALS?

I assume TSCALS. If you have per device these license are used by the connecting clients. So if you setup a second server and you connect with it to the first one it will take a license.

As markdmac said there should be a license server running. Check here for more info:
