I have Norton 2003 installed on my computer. It came with the computer and still use it. However, I don't want to pay for another subscription to get the virus definitions updated.

The problem with this is it has this 'Security Alert' pop-up window saying my virus protection is out of date. Problem is if I click 'ok' to tell it I know that already, it pops up again within 30 seconds.

I need to know if there is a way to stop this pop up without deactivating or uninstalling Norton.

I have additional virus software; AVG Free Edition to be precise that is updated for free. If I were to uninstall Norton would the AVG offer the same protection as Norton?

The solution is to update Norton by paying for the subscription. In my experience AVG does not catch all that Norton is capable of.

That said, I find Norton to be a resource hog and not as thorough as Bit Defender. BD has found things on my machine that Norton passed over.

After time, the thing that one comes to realize about the internet is that there is NOTHING that is actually FREE!

Are you happy with Norton? After my subscription ended with Norton. Geek Squad told me to move to Trend Micro Pc-cillin since it catches more viruses.

If you go to Best Buy or Geek Squad, I'm sure they would suggest using Trend Micro over norton. User interface is a lot more friendly in TM products.
