I have an NT4 domain that I am looking to upgrade to 2003AD. In preparation I have a production 2003 server that is running DHCP, DNS(dynamic) and WINS.

DHCP and WINS work fine. DNS appears to be working but in the forward lookup zone the only Host(A) records that are apearing are for the Win9x clients and statically set servers. DHCP is informing all clients that DNS now exists which can be confirmed by running ipconfig on a WinXP client.

Why aren't the 2000Pro/XP clients records appearing (although they do get referenced in the reverse lookup zone) ?

How is your nt4 domain set up? Is it running dhcp, dns or whatever? I don't understand how you set up a production 2004 server with an nt4 domain still functioning. Good luck.

You can have 200x machines running in an NT4 domain as member servers. Since DHCP, DNS & WINS don't have to be ActiveDirectory enabled they will all serve an NT4 domain properly from a 2003 server.

The only servers we still have running NT in the actual domain are the PDC & BDC servers, everything else is 200x.
