2000 VPN/DNS problem

I have set up a VPN server which seems to be working OK. The problem occurs when I try and access from home the client sees the VPN server IP as the internal one from RRAS and will not ping or resolve it I can see other machines via UNC names but not the VPN server if I use the same computer via a modem at work it works fine any help would be gratefully appreciated
 
We have a VPN setup at work. When configuring the client, I have it pointing the the external IP address of the firewall. It finds the server after that.
