Gentlemen I am trying to get certified as a MCSA (2000)....I have pass windows 2000 server, windows 2000 pro, and A+....should i take the remaining network + and Managing a Windows 2000 Network environment ??.......or should i take the test from scratch for the 2003 track??..does anyont know until when Microsoft will let people get certified in 2000 products?? Thanks

Personally I don't know if there are any firm dates for when the Windows 2000 certs will go away.

You may as well finish what you've been working on, then upgrade to the Windows 2003 certs. You will only have to take a few tests that way and you'll have both certs.

Hey netadmin06...

In order to obtain a MCSA 2000 you need to pass 4 exams (3 core, 1 elective). You've passed 3 so you only have one more to go.

To obtain a MCSA 2003 you also need to pass 4 exams. Two of the exams you've already passed count towards this cert.

Your options are as follows:
MCSA 2000: complete one more exam
MCSA 2003: complete two more exams

For reference:

netadmin06,

I was in the same situation. I just took the 218 in Dec, and I am now officially an MCSA in W2K. What I would recommend is first finish what you already know, or are very familiar with currently. Then take the time to study what you are unfamiliar with, and upgrade your MCSA/MCSE cert to 03 or even 07. If you’re already familiar with 2k3, then just go after that. You have plenty of options, and there in your favor. Main thing is get on it, and get certified.

There hasn't been a notice to retire the 2000 exams so it won't be for another year at least as that's the usual notice period.

Anyone know if it will be possible to upgrade straight from MCSA 2000 to 2007 or will 2003 have to be taken first? That could be a concideration as by the time you finish 2000 the 2007 might be available.

As the Windows Vista Certs haven't been released yet (and probably won't be until after the Server OS has been released) Microsoft hasn't anounced that yet. Here is the URL to the MCITP site

Don't quote me but I wouldn't be surprised if on June 1, 2007, Microsoft published the retirement date for the 2000 track.

That's usually the appointed time when they make such announcements. So you probably have a year and 4-5 months at a bare minimum. If they announce retired exams on June 2007, they usually give you 12 months to take the exam.

So it wouldn't be a bad idea to get rolling on this now, rather than later.
