Hi ,

When I scheduled a Windows 2000 unattended backup by using a standalone tape drive, the first backup job completed sucessfully. However when the next scheduled backup does not back up the desired file or folders. I did not change the tape. The tape is same.

The error message in backup report log file that I got was

"The operation was not performed because no unused media was available."

I tried info found on Microsoft's Technet site and tried a few tips on Tek-Tips ...but no luck.

What am I doing wrong. Please help me!!!

Thanks,

Sean

hi,
probably the problem is caused by the tape is used
and previously labeled.
- Try to launch it manually with the same tape,
- Use scheduled task with another tape
- See options to silent overwrite pre-labeled tape

Hi - I had a very similar problem on a few of our servers , it seemed that ntbackup.exe ( SP1 ) does not check the tape drive to see what media is inserted .The only fix I could find ( and believe me I tried a lot ! ) was upgrading to SP3 ( beware however , if you're based in the uk , because it set dates back to US format ) All backups seem to be running fine now .
Hope that helps
cheers
Ed
