Hi all,
here's the situation:
I'm running Windows 2000 SBS and a Symantec Gateway 360 router. I setup port 1723 to pass through the firewall to the server's ip address. I can connect external machines to the VPN and Outlook attaches to Exchange successfully. The problem is that most of the times I try to establish a VPN connection, it just sits there "Connecting to ....." and doesn't make the connection. Doesn't even get to the stage where it verifys username and password. After a while, I get Error 800: unable to establish the VPN connection...". Other times, it connects without a problem. Once it does connect, it works as it should.
As a test, I've had a remote desktop session connected to the server (using the public IP of the internet connection) while I try to connect the VPN, so I'm pretty sure it's not an internet connection issue on either end.
I can also telnet to port 1723 without a problem.
I checked the logs in the firewall, no indication of a problem there. Only time I see anything of interest is when I connect to the VPN successfully, it reports that the inbound VPN rule allowed traffic.
I've tried the connection on 2 machines (both running XP Pro) with the same results.
Any ideas what I can do? I'm really stuck...
Thanks!
-Alan
