We've located a CPU with an associated IVR# to keep as a spare for a 2000 IVS. The CPU is at Release 1910, but the current system CPU is at Release 1930. When first purchased, the current CPU was also at 1910, but was upgraded to 1930 during installation. We still have the 1930 upgrade diskettes. Release 1930 is required for CCIS, which we use to network to another 2000 IVS.

The question is if the 1930 upgrade diskettes we have can be used to upgrade the new CPU to 1930 if it ever has to be installed.

in a word no! Whats more you don't own the software rights to the replacement CPU as it was originally sold with a right to use only. So if you want to get an upgrade for it you will effectively have to "buy" it again from NEC. Sell it and buy one that has what you need. But bear in mind that if you use the replacement you can't get any maintenance on it for the reason stated above!

The CPU hasn't been purchased yet. The reason for the post was to find out if it would be usable. Thanks.

Those old CPU's have a registration number loaded in. If you lose that number, or default the CPU and lose it, it cannot be regenerated. NEC has taken the IVR server for the old IVS system down for good. Also, if the CPU is not powered up for a great length of time that number will degrade and leave you with nothing. The memory is held by a slow discharge capacitor which will over time discharge. If you purchase a CPU from someone, make sure that they have the IVR number available to re-input.

Thanks. We're clued in about the IVR#, but based on OzzieGeorge's response, we'll have to locate a CPU with Release 1930 software already on it. Can't use 1930 upgrade diskettes we have to upgrade a 1910 CPU that we could obtain, even if it had associated IVR# documentation.
