Can anybody help me with some advice on upgrading the system software?
I currently have 3200 series, R6.1, and want to upgrade to R8. I know it will require database converstion, but I couldn't even get to that point.
I backed up everything, and started the process.
First you have to load the disks to your PC computer, then define your connection and baud rate to the PBX, and once all set, it wants to load from the PC to the PBX. This is where it bogs down; "unable to load software files".
I don't know what's the problem. I tested my serial connection to the pbx before, works just fine. I also had the "sense" wheel set to 6 and also tried 7, but both gave the same problem.

Any ideas?

look at SW2 (Piano Keys) on the CPU card. I bet that switch 4 is on. It needs to be set to off for the RS-232C connection. Try changing switch four to off and then start again.

You can talk about us, but you can't talk without us.

What version of Matworx are you using? Are you trying to use the software activation tool? I don't beleive the sense wheel should be on 6. Leave it on "0" then wait for the the software to tell you to change it.

On the sense wheel, yes I waited for the software to tell me, and it said "turn the sense wheel to 6, and push the reset button". I did that.
Then I have to click on "next" or "load" (I don't remember)on the PC for it to start uploading the new software to the PBX, but it gives me this ugly message :(

I know for sure that the serial connection is good, becuase before the upgrade, I can talk to the PBX in MOC mode.

One thing I can think of is, do I have to do a "B-Load" before this (you know, sense wheel to B and push reset, to wipe all office-data).

You will be able to talk to the PBX in MOC mode with switch 4 on, but you will not be able to modify it. That little piano key has burned me once before on an upgrade, had to call NEC just for them to tell me to flip the switch to off.

Oh, OK, you might be my man. I'll attempt the upgrade again in the afternoon, since the pbx is in another building. So that's a good clue.

By the way, my matworx is 6.3.0, but I'm doing the upgrade via the provided "IPS Registration Wizard", which walks me through the steps. Do I have to wipe my office data with a "b-load" before I upgrade the software? I know I have to do a conversion, but I don't know if it can be the cause of any problem I have...

OK, it's not SW2. All piano keys are in OFF position, so that's not the reason...
Any other ideas?

Make sure the registration wizard is 1.0.0.8. You can see this in the title bar or by checking the properties of the executable file for the application.
A B load may be required for errors in license transfer after loading the core but you are stating that the core is not loading after turning the MP sense wheel to the requested number.
When requested by the tool for a data speed you should select 57K and you will be prompted to turn the sense wheel to an 8 on the MP. Selecting any speed lower than this like 9600 or 19200 will greatly increase the time of load to easily over an hour. Also making it more likely to fail.
Also make sure you are using a laptop with a physical com port and not a USB to com port converter.
If this is an upgrade with licensing make sure the CM 4008>0 or 1>4 . This will set the MP port speed to 9600 for the license transfer once the core files are loaded and the sense wheel returned to 0. That port must also be a NONE in CM 4000.
If failure still occurs try another laptop or any PC. The registration wizard folder can be simply be zipped up and moved to any pc. Just create a folder on the root of the new pc and extract the files to it and then use the executable to run.

It worked!
I changed to IPS Reg Wizard 1.0.0.8 (before I used ver 1.0.0.6)
I disabled the password.
I used direct serial connection from PC to PBX (before I used a fiber converter).

After I changed these 3 things, it worked like wonder.
