Currently I have 2 DC's one has all the fsmo roles including DNS server and master browser (DNS-ADI). the other DC is a plain DC with no DNS, It does point to the other DC for ADI-DNS. Would I benefit performance wise if I installed ADI-DNS on this second server and also made it a GC? or should I leave as is?

now things work well, but If there was a peformance gain, I would be up for change.

When I do random polling of workstations, its about 50/50 that the command "set logonserver" reports back either DC1 or DC2.

Does Changing the Priority or weight under ADI forward lookup zone for the DC's svr records allow an administrator to swing his client to only using 1 preferred DC?

Thanks

i dont think you would see a performance gain unless you have 1000's of users or your dns is performing a heck of a lot of lookups. you would benifit from a redundency standpoint though. if the 2nd dc was a gc and a dns server if/when the 1st dc fails/reboots/dies the 2nd dc would be able to authenticate your users so they could still have network access. Not sure about the priority or weight on the lookup zone, someone else may be able to answer that. if you have multiple subnets you can setup 2 sites in sites and services and have specific subnets authenticate to specific servers, this wouldnt work though if everyone is on the same subnet.
