Hi all,
I have a branch office which is experiencing 20-30% packet loss when pinging internal machines and switch. If i put laptop on same patchlead as pc i get 0%loss and 100%<10ms (as it should be!). Now, if i put a hub inbetween pc and wall socket I get 0%loss. Obviously the hub is repeating and amplifying nic output, any clues as to what is causing this problem and how to solve it - without putting hubs out everywhere !!?? By the way - its happening on all pc's so cant be a faulty nic.

I bet the hub is forcing the protocol to be half duplex, which works. I am betting without the hub, some gear is full duplex and some is half, which does not work as the half duplex gear never expects the other side to both send and recieve, so it is losing packets that come in while it is sending.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I agree with jimbo you have speed/duplex mismatches on the switches causing the packet loss . Both ends must match if one port is auto then the other end must be auto , if it's hardcode to 100/full then the other end must be 100/full.
