2 workflows, 3 emails, 1st one twice

Hi, SharePoint 2007, InfoPath 2007
I set up 2 workflows,

step 1 sends an email when a InfoPath field is populated
step 2 sends an email when another field gets populated

however the second workflow causes the first workflow to resend the first email.

How can I get it not to fire off the first email twice? thanks

If you are using sharepoint designer open the first workflow, then click the back button. Uncheck "Automatically start this workflow when an item is changed". See if that helps.
