2 weird Aloha things after upgrade

I am used to seeking flakey little issues with Aloha upgrades--usually, it's silly stuff, like check boxes that come "undone" and need to be re-checked.

Customer has been upgraded from 4.2 to 5.3.15. Two minor, but strange things have been happening.

1) Customer claims that when they used NO, SIDE, and EXTRA buttons, they aren't showing up on the guest check screen. They are showing up on the kitchen tickets, but the problem is the servers don't know if they hit them, because it's not showing up on the screen.

(I think I'd seen one system where all you could see was exclamation points before the item, but I don't remember what was done to resolve it).

2) This is a credit card issue, and there are really two things that keep happening. Sometimes, when they swipe a card, they get a message saying something to the effect of "Card must be atleast 13 digits". If they swipe it again, I believe it works. The other one they claim happens is that they swipe a credit card, and they end up with an card that doesn't authorize, that has an expiration date, but no number showing? Very odd, and I should point out I have not verified this myself... just taking the customers word for it at this point (but they are a fairly sophisticated user).

I just figured I would get a heads up from some of you guys, to see if anyone has heard of this stuff.

Thanks is advance.

That is a big jump, the bigger the jump the more 'flakey' things you will see. And going from ver 4 to ver 5, you almost always loose something. We have no more ver 4 customers, we will not even put that under a maintenance contract.
When you have an issue with a certain field, like cc number minimum, you can go to where you set that in payments and edit it, save it, and refresh, and most of the time that will straighten things out.

As far as the CC issue goes, whenever I do a jump like that you HAVE to redo your CC tenders. The old version did it one way and in 5.2 they changed the way they did it. You have to go under Type and use the drop down menu and choose the type of CC that the tender is. In the older versions, you did not have this option. This has happened to me in several occasions and this was the solution.

Exactly. Reset you card parameters with special attention to card number and expiration date settings.

Thanks guys. I will give this a shot. No ideas on the NO/SIDE/EXTRA stuff?

Try by doing an unregister services, do a dbconfig on both newdata and data, and then run a register services and see if that helps.

For future reference, whenever you pull someone from 4. versions, take a copy of their data and new data and do it in house first to make sure everything comes over and works correctly.

Why not install 5.3.30 .
5.3.15 is pretty old.

Good question. CISP compliance was the main reason for the client's upgrade. The dealer provided them with version(I am doing this from memory here) 5.3.26 Gold (I think that's what it said on the CD)?? Anyway, upgrading straight from that CD wa resulting in a couple of error messages (though I don't quite remember what they were). Anyway, 5.3.15 worked, and was relatively smooth, minus the issues I've mentioned here. So, it's probably not a horrible idea to try installing it again, now that the jump is not so large.

Thanks for the input. Here's a little update.

Credit Card situation: Under all tenders but VISA, the MIN and MAX number of digits were equal. For example, AMEX said MAX: 15, MIN: 15. The VISA, for some reason, was set to MIN: 13 MAX: 16. I asked the customer if it seemed to happen only with VISA, and she said she couldn't guarantee it, but it seemed like it. So, I changed it to MAX: 16 MIN: 16, and have not heard anything since. We'll see what happens. (If you recall, the error message was saying something like "Card must be atleast 13 digits").

I have some more info on the other issue with the NO, SIDE, and EXTRA mods. This is what I observed: When you're entering modifiers on the mod screen, the NO, SIDE, and EXTRA show up just fine (for example, NO PICKLES). It's when you go back to the standard guest check screen (to enter another entree, for example) that they disappear (will revert to PICKLES). They do show up on chits in the kitchen just fine (NO PICKLES). The problem is very consistent, not limited to any certain items or anything like that. Which got me to wondering--is there some setting where you can have them not show up on this screen that maybe got checked or unchecked during the upgrade? I couldn't imagine why you would want to do this, but as I said--it's consistent enough that it had me wondering if maybe this wasn't a bug after, and just something that got changed.

Thanks for you help.

You need to get off 5.3.15 and go to latest version.
