Hi All,

We're wanting to move away from using tape and I'm trying to set up a rotation scheme for full daily backups on a 2 weekly rotation using FSD. i.e. mon-odd tue-odd,etc etc and the for the 2nd week mod-even tue-even. etc.

Unfortunatley I'm not seeing the wood for the trees and would appriciate any help anyone can give in setting it up.

Regards
Paul

These days most use backup to a deduplication device on disk and then migrate to tape.

If however you want to move totally away from tape and only to disk then setup one FSD per tape needed. Ideally at least two different disks should be used as a minimum.

So you would create a directory called "mon-odd" and another tues-odd, and another wed-odd...

Hi David,

I've got the FSD set up in folders mon-odd..tue-odd and have the 5 day rotation woking into those ( formatted as monday tuesday wednesday etc.

However I can't figure out how to have 1 job do a 2 weekly cycle using mon-odd etc etc THEN mon-even.

I've tried changing the retension length to 13 for the 5 day job but that says its been chaged due to the number of days in the job.

But I'll know for sure about that next tuesday :) if it works I'm sorted of not I'm not :(

and thanks for the reply .

Using the Media Pool to manage that is a good idea.

Media Pools have to settings # of days & # of media and both have to be met before a media is moved to the scratch set.

So 5 days & 5 tapes means that after there are five tapes in the save set and at least one has been there for at least 5 days when tape 6 goes into the save set the oldest will get moved to the scratch set.
