We are transitioning from CE9 to BOXI Release 2. Can I have both Crystal Reports 9 and Crystal REports XI on my machine without any problems?

Thanks,
Bessebo

When you put in the BOE-XI (R2) CD it will detect the CE-9 install and try to UPGRADE it.

I don't think there is a documented/BOBJ supported way of having CE-9 and BOE-XI (R2) live side-by-side on a single server. You might get it to work, but if you every have any problems in the future BOBJ support will blame your side-by-side configuration - and not go much further.

Best practice is NOT to mix them or UPGRADE in place.

Build a clean BOE-XI (R2) server then use the IMPORT WIZARD to migrate over users and content.

It is money and time well spent.

You can have multiple versions of Crystal Reports on a development machine, not sure about CE and BOE-XI...

I'mwith MJRBIM, one would think that you'd just want to upgrade as CR 9 can write to BOE XI.

The file formats are similar, unlike CR 8.5 and below.

Let's hear how you get on with this, and even more curiously, why?

We are transitioning from Crystal Enterprise 9 to BOEXI Release 2 over the next month or so. We will have both environments active as we transition over users. There is no need to have a hard switch-over date. I may have to make some modifications to the Crystal Enterprise 9 environment with Crystal Reports 9. At the same time I would also like to be able to develop in Crystal Reports XI, even if I have to just go in an save in Crystal Reports XI format. I have noticed that after importing that there are some reports that give me errors when scheduling. If I save them in Crystal Reports XI and then try to schedule them, they are fine.

Hi,
Since both CE10 and BOE XI use a virtual directory with the same name but different physical file system location, even if you could 'fool' BOE XI into not upgrading your existing CE setup, it would most fail without some post-install revisions that would have large down-stream complications...Best advice..Don't do it.

I think there is some confusion here. I only want to have Crystal REPORTS 9 and Crystal REPORTS XI on one client so that I can update/create reports on either Crystal Enterprise 9 or Business Objects XI Release 2.

I already have my Crystal Enterprise 9 and BOXI Release 2 environments on their own servers. I'm only talking about having 2 versions of Crystal Reports on my client.

Thanks,
Bessebo

Yes, you can have different Crystal Reports versons on one machine, it'sfairly common for this exact reason and CRsupports it.

Synapsevampire,
Thanks. That was the answer I was looking for and to the proper question. One other thing, in order to get the latest version of Crystal Reports XI Release 2 on my machine is there a version in Business Objects ESD that has all of the latest updates so that I can perform one install? I have CDs for Crystal Reports XI Release 2 but not sure all of the updates, service packs, etc that I need to add after that...

Thanks,
Bessebo

Service Pack 2 is cumulative of all SPs, Monthly Hot Fixes, and Critical Hot Fixes to CHF-16.

When you say service pack 2 is there a separate service pack 2 for Crystal Reports or is the service pack 2 you are referring to is the one that is associated with Business Objects Enterprise? I cannot see a specific service pack 2 assocaited with Crystal Reports XI in the Business Objects Electronic Software Delivery website...

Thanks,
Bessebo

Hi,
Business Objects, in its infinite wisdom, now combines CR and BOE service packs in one download...The installer examines your system to see what needs to be patched/updated/removed.

After starting the install, go get lunch..It ain't quick!

I thought so and I think that is ridiculous. That is a huge download. So I have to download the Service Pack 2 for Business Objects Enterprise? I did that before with Business Objects Enterprise and it said I have to install Service Pack 1 first. Should I download the Business Objects Enterprise (Full Version)?

Thanks,
Bessebo

Thanks. That is great...I appreciate it..
