I am having trouble using apply filter to 2 subforms on a main form. The data is related to scheduled time off. One subform will show who is scheduled to be here and the other will show who is scheduled to be gone.

I haven't used the filter method before. I tried to define a filter as a query, but I must be doing something wrong. I'm not sure if I should apply the filter to the query or the form. When is the filter applied (and how?).

For a subform to work properly it must be linked to the mainform by a common field. Once linked then filtering(whether at the form level or query level) can be applied quite easily. In this case, I would recommend using query level filtering. In each subform's record source property add the criteria for the field that defines whether or not the individual is scheduled to work to the value you wish the subform to display. For example, if the field translates to True - they work or False - they don't then set the criteria for this field in one subform to True and the other subform to False.
