Hi

I need an answer on a couple of things that I'm not too sure of...

Our epos system requires static ip addresses in the pos units. We're running some mobile tills now, so I have 2 nics in each unit - one wired, one wireless. The epos server must know the ip address of the till to function properly. Our wireless coverage is pretty good, but I'm just paranoid that one day someone is going to break something. For this reason I want to leave the wired nic in use. This means both nics need the same IP address.

Is this possible? Windows (win2k) is warning me off, but will let me enter the same address for both.

If I do this, what would happen if both network connections were active at the same time? Windows says 'if both become active, only one will use this address'. Does anyone know how it will choose? Wired is connection 1, wireless is connection 2. From my point of view I don't mind that *only* one is active on that address, since as long as the server can find the database at the end of the ip address it knows then everything is OK.

Hope someone may know a little about this!

Cheers

Mike

This is not a good state of affairs. Windows will depend on the Metric assigned each adapter; almost assuredly the wired adapter has a lower Metric.

Make the assignment, but "Disable" the wired connection. If you need to revert "Disable" the wireless connection and enable the wired connection.

Heh is there any forum you don't get stars in?

Thanks very much.
