We are working on modifying our fiscal/auditing operations. As envisioned, the modifications will require several individual pcs on the network to run two separate applications and simultaneously display each application on its own monitor eg. Oracle and MSExcel or MSAccess and MSExcel or MSExcel and MSExcel. Several years ago someone had reported using 2 video boards to drive 2 separate monitors from a single pc. We need to know what it would take to duplicate such functionality today on a Win 2000 network. (Most likely we would be using flat-screen monitors -- although I doubt that it matters.)

Specifically we need to know:

1. Is it possible to do this?

and

2. What would it take in tems of equipment to accomplish it?

If anyone has investigated or accomplished a similar set-up her or his (pc R us) ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,
John

Assuming that I understand your question:
Yes, it is possible.
Newer graphiccards support a feature usually called "Twin View" and have two monitor-connectors (usually analog and dvi).
Using a standard driver you can now expand your windows desktop (do not clone it!) to the two connected monitors and operate two programs easily.

dont forget that now you cant use two video cards because you have only one AGP, unles youve a PCI video card. get AGP video with two video-outs, as lammbock has said.

just get a matrox card and be done with it.
all other dual head setups suck.
matrox has the only full dualhead support on the market ...
especially nvidias twinview is unuseable

!!!

Cheapest way is to buy a PCI card for each computer and run it into a second monitor. I have used SIS or Trio PCi cards with SIS AGP chips on the motherboard and with 1 AGP card.
You cant have 2 AGP's at once
To make an application run in the second monitor you have to Normalise it, drag it across from the original monitor to the new one then Maximize it and close it. Most apps will start next time in the monitor where you last closed it. It doesnt matter whether the app is in the computer or from the network.
