2 IP linked to 1 domain

Is it possible to have 2 IP address linked with one domain.
or vice versa. I am not sure. thanks

Yes. You can have as many IP addresses linked with as many domains as you like.

But what happens when you ping the domain. Which IP address will respond.

If you have multiple IP's with 1 domain pointers it will most likely use round robin, you wont know which 1 will reply.

If you have single IP and multiple domains and want to hosts sites then use host headers.

When you ping using Windows, it will show you which IP address it resolved for that name.

ex:
C:\>ping

http://www.tek-tips.com

Pinging tek-tips.com [216.45.19.33] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 216.45.19.33:

I want to link my IP address 61.x.x.x to my domain name

http://www.xyz.com.

I have already given the domain registrar the name server details for my ISP. At the moment its only 24 hours have past. Now when I ping the doamin name as ping mail.xyz.com and ping

http://www.yz.com

I get totally different Ip address ping response. I long exactly should i wait and why am I getting this different IP address response. Could you please explain.

mail.xyz.com will have a different IP address to

http://www.xyz.com

unless you have requested that they point to the same IP address.

It would help if you provided the real domain name.

when I ping I get the IP address 66.216.74.58 where as I should get 61.9.201.203. When I ping the router I get 61.9.201.203. Thanks
