Hi everybody,

I currently have an older dsl modem and a new one which is currently set up. My ISP caps at 3 gig and to get a second account will only cost a little bit extra so I was thinking of doing this. My questions are the following:
1. Can this be done with two modems going through the same access point?
2. If so, is the bandwidth shared between the two modems?
3. How would one go about setting this up, would another server be preferable so that I can be sure the right account is being used so that I don't get capped?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

they make dual WAN routers, yes, here is an example

as you may read, having both WANs with the same provider reduces the effectiveness, when one connection goes down so does the other, one DSL and one cable modem would be better.

also, no one download would be faster, only you could do overlapping downloads at full speed.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

If I'm not mistaken you cannot connect two dsl modems to the same line. The modems won't be able to synchronize properly. With cable modems, you should be able. If you want two dsl modems to work, then you need two telephone lines ? Can anyone confirm this ?

akwong so far as I know, you are correct

but for any meaningful redundancy, you would want one DSL and one cable connection

akwong,

As far as I know you are correct with DSL, and correct about being able (with approval) to do so under cable.

But as jimbopalmer notes, what you want is both failover as well as any possible bandwidth coupling. If you plan to do this, do so for the backup of your internet connection and not as a bandwidth combining feature, as you are sure to be disappointed otherwise.
