Due to lack of desk space, idea was suggested to have shared desk between 2 staffers sharing the same physical handset but have 2 different DN's.
I am skeptical of this idea but I know it can be done using Answer DN approach. If we are to try to implement, How bad of an idea is this. This is going
to be implemented on 3 desks, 3 physical handsets, 2 DN's with rollover extensions on each user, for incoming call if the first DN is in use.

Users will be working on different days but time will come when they can be at the office at the same time, will be an issue. Another issue I see is
voice mail visual notification Can the second user have audible voice mail notification. Another non-technical issue is device hygiene and sanitation.
As a user myself, I avoid using another person's phone very particularly during flu and cold season.

Any thoughts on this arrangement, operational, technical, or just about anything ? It will be appreciated.

Yeah it's not an ideal situation to share phones.

Answer DN will work thought but you need an available physical port on the system and tag it DO NOT USE ANS DN 2XX or some tech will program it up when you order a new phone.

222 user A
223 User B

222 is the set and has an Answer DN key for 223 (an available port)

222 Forward No Answer set to 4 rings
223 Forward No Answer set to 3 rings

In Mailbox 223 setup Off Prem notify to call their mobile when a message is left.

or

Call a tech in to add another jack (change single face plate to dual face plate) and connect the 2nd one to an available port.
Tape/tyrap the second mod cord to the original one.

or

Use Hunt Groups if you have and add 223 as the only member and assign a HG key as Appear and Ring.
Overflow to the DN of voice mail like FNA is in sets.
Build a mailbox behind the HG's DN instead of 223

Thank you for the response. I think I should be able to object now with better understanding of what steps need to happen before this becomes a reality.

Looks like we are better off going the conventional way, one user, one phone, one desk since we need to have a working DN to start with. It is simpler

approach to setup and break down to individual desks later on. Thank you.

Yes, I totally agree with the previous comments. If you have any IP client licenses, then you could have a 2050 softphone installed on a computer if desk space is an issue.

Actually, if you have enough IP set licenses, several users could share a single physical IP phone and use the hotdesking feature to get their DN while they use the IP phone.

And why you should always give system type/software/set type when posting.

IP set with Hotdesking is the way to go.

You could always keep a 2 second handset in the drawer and label them for the Hygiene issue.

Looks like we have the capability to do the HotDesk feature. We have enough seats for IP Sets, Feature code is already listed at *999.

I just have to read up on how to deploy Hot Desk on the physical phone, a T7316E and the system itself. Can someone please provide a general
outline how it is implemented to the desk phone. I will still read up on it, but that could shorten the learning curve, I did not know
the BCM is capable of this feature. Should time come that we split the users to their own desk and phone, is that easy to take down.

Useful images of the BCM50 that I am working with. Also the BCM is at a branch office, 3 hours away, remote is the preferred maintenance.
Right now, there is available desk with existing DN. If I can convert the existing DN and add another DN, make them both hot desking,
we have proof of concept to show and test. Thank You.

It appears you do not have any licenses for IP phones. On BCM, the Hot Desking feature is supported on IP phones only (T7316E is a digital phone).

The feature operation is simple - you invoke the feature on a physical IP phone (or i2050), specify a DN of an IP phone that you want to use on that IP phone, enter a password and "magically" the phone will switch to the specified DN. When you cancel the feature, the IP phone reverts to its original DN.

Thank you for clarifying. We can always go back to the classic install plan.
