I didnt see a Virtual Server forum, so I decided to post my question here.

I have a machine running Server 2003 R2 64-bit with Virtual Server 2008. It has two NIC's.I was asked to setup a test domain environment to test our backup and recovery methods.

I config NIC1 to match the IP subnet of the domain(10.0.0.X). I config NIC2 with a new IP subnet (10.0.3.X) for the test domain. I setup a VLAN in the switch. I can sucessfully ping the NIC2 ip from any domain pc. TCP/IP settings for NIC2 are as follow;

10.0.3.2
255.255.255.0
10.0.3.2

DNS 10.0.0.24
(i am using my existing DNS server)

So I setup a Virtual server (TESTDC)in VS2008. Assigned the following IP to TEST DC

10.0.3.3
255.255.255.0
10.0.3.2

DNS 10.0.0.24

The problem...... I cant ping TESTDC from any box. When I do a trace route, it stops at 10.0.3.2 and times out.

Any suggestions????

well which NIC? I'm workin with 3 of them in this scenario...

I checked each NIC and I didnt see a setting in the properties of each nor did I see a setting in Virtual Server console to set the nic in bridged mode...

do i bridge the connections on the host server???

So the title of your post, and the description of the environment is incorrect, as there is no Virtual Server 2008.

10.0.3.2/24 and 10.0.3.3/24 would be on the same subnet, but 10.0.0.24 would not (assuming /24).

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Sniper you are correct... title is wrong.

I believe I have the NIC's setup correctly, for some reason I cant talk to the 10.0.3.x VM from anymachine on the 10.0.0.x subnet.

I dont know if I have to install some sort of router or software on the host machine...
