We have 2 Nortel BCM Sites that are linked together with a point to point T1 line. Seems like all we can do is make and forward calls. Each site has its own BCM not sure why because only 5 or so people need a phone at the other site.

Is this all that can be done or is it possible to page and transfer to voicemail over the T1 line?

Also is it possible with 2 BCM sites to configure a 2002 or 2004 phone to use the other BCM system. I got it working with the Software phone by pointing it to the IP number so can the same thing be done with the i2002 and i2004?

If you have a data connection between the two sites, you could run a 2002/2004 phone off the other BCM, provided the appropriate client keycodes are on the BCM.

Paging can be done over IP trunks/tie lines. Never done it, but have read that it can be done.

Transfer to voicemail can't be done from system to system unless you do centralized voicemail, far as I'm aware. If the two systems were networked together with VPIM, you might be able to have network delivery mailboxes built that appear local to one system, but actually forward messages to a mailbox on the far system. Never tried doing a feature 986 to a network delivery mailbox, but it works for forwarding, composing, etc.

You could use the express messaging extension under the call pilot mailbox only problem is you will use double the target lines and have an extension number and a mailbox number. This is still not feature 986 but would go straight to voice mail box

example

Ext range 200 Ext Range 300
T1
BCM A----------------------------------------BCM B

Ext 300
Mailbox 7300

The receptionist at BCM A would answer the call and caller asks for extension 300 on BCM B. Extension 300 is out of the office she would then press transfer and 7300 this would go straight to voicemail box without ringing the extension 300.You would one for every extension on both systems but it would work. You would still have two seperate voicemail systems and would require no additional keycodes

As Biv343 said providing you can get to the BCM at the far end and you have the IP clients. You would set S1 on the I2002 or 2004 to be the BCM at the far end.

Yes we have a data connection on the T1 line. Where you go to setup the IP phones to use the other BCM instead of the local one?

Could one IP phone be able to use both BCM systems to answer all calls?

We originally wanted one person to answer all calls for both sites but it has not been setup like that. The other BCM system just has callers on auto attendant which wasn't what we wanted.

Hi mcnmpc

You can not have an IP phone registered and working on both BCM systems.Have you got BCM 3.6 systems.

Marshall

It is easier on BCM 3.6 but the easy way on the 3.5 is to have a target line pointed to an extension and then call forward to the BCM extension at the fare end.

Marshall

Why not ebay one of the BCMs and buy a set of routers for the T1? Then run digital sets where the BCM is located and run i200x phones on the far end of the T1? Then it is one system that the operator can answer for everyone. One system, two locations.

That would be the easiest way to maintain and configure as inet2xtreme said. Only one problem no redundancy.

Marshall

As Marshall mentioned, it's easier to redirect (forward all calls feature) target lines in 3.6, but with 3.5, you could do line redirection. For example, have a switchroom phone with the lines you want answered in question assigned to it. You could then redirect those lines (feature 84??) to a CDP destination code.

Two drawbacks - this needs a digital set dedicated to this function to work properly (old 7310 or 7324's work good for this), and if the system ever loses power you'll need to manually initiate the line redirections again from that set.

If upgrading to 3.6 isn't an option, this might do the trick for you. Plus, you'll have your local trunks at that site for redundancy and 911 issues.
