2 adsl modem WAN 1

Has anybody ever tried to connect 2 adsl modems to each other. If so, any luck? I dont mean with a vpn but just 2 adsl modems with a phone line between them. It may sound like a silly question, but I don't know the answer so I'm asking

Connecting 2 ADSL modems together through the phone lines won't work. The modems needs to synchronize to the DSLAM in the Telco office to communicate across the WAN.

It is possible for point 2 point connection btw 2 sites.

How are you going to do a point to point between them using the phone line connection? Also some modems (example Speedstream 5200) won't allow you LAN programming access without an active WAN link to the DSLAM.

There are 'phone line ethernet extenders' that are similar to DSL, if you are just trying to get connection between two buildings you have dry pairs between. Usually under $1000.
