What's the easiest way to have 2 separate address books ?

(Don't ask !!! It's my better half who says I have too many contacts to wade through !)

Cheers

HI kwunder!!

Well, depends on what you are using for mail??

Should really be the same but here goes!!!

First off, you have to have your folder list displaying on the left hand side.....do this by going to View->Folder List, in Outlook. When it's there, and you can see a list of folders including inbox, outbox and sent items etc, click on Contacts (where all your contacts should be) and then go to New->Folder. A window pops up called 'Create New Folder', in the window you have two options to make....one is to give it a name, (for example Friends, or Contacts2) and the second is what the folder will contain, obviously you want to select Contact Items....Leave your Contacts folder highlighted and press OK.
Now a folder is created in the contacts folder, which can now store other contacts that you (or your other half!!) want to keep in there. Just drag and drop existing contacts into that folder.

Then, when sending a mail, click on TO: and you will see a pulldown option for where you want to look for the reciepiant, in either Contacts, or Contacts2!

This process can be repeated as many times as you want, and you can just select the folder/contacts you want when selecting the TO: field....

Hope this works!! Jay~

Jay,
I'm using Outlook Express 6. When I open address book and click File>New Folder, I only get one dialogue box, to type in the Folder Name.
Am I missing something ?

Thanks

Hmmmm...?? Are you in the actual address book, or in the Contacts folder in Outlook??? Basically you just want to create a folder in the Contacts folder, which will be a sub folder...!! Lost!? I AM!

You shouldn't have to open the address book, just go to outlook and when you are looking at your contacts in there, go to New->Folder, and it should start to create one there for you....

I am going by a different version of Outlook so I may be off....please tell if there is no Contacts folder in outlook or no New menu etc..... Jay~

Jay,

From Outlook Express, I have the usuall screen, divided into 4 sections
Top Left - Folders
Top Right - Contents of selected folder
Bottom Left - Address Book / Contacts
Bottom Right - Currently selected message contents

In the address book / contacts quarter, there is only one button, being called Contacts. When I press this, I just get a "New Contact" option.

When I go to Tools / Address Book to actually open Address Book, then click on NEW, I get 3 options, being :-
1. Contact
2. Group
3. Folder

From there, if I click on New FOlder, I just get greeted with a "Folder Name ?"
I give it a name, and it then appears in the left side of Address Book, along with my existing "MAIN IDENTITIES CONTACTS"
If I highlight the New FOlder I create, then select File/Import/Address book (WAB) and try to import the other address book I have, it just adds all the new contacts to the original book !!!!***####~~!

If you can understand that lot, then you've obviously NOT been at the Guinness !!

Thanks Mate

Why not move all the contacts you have into the new folder, and then when you go to import the new contacts they appear on their own in the original folder..???

Hmm...will that work? Or have I had too much of the Black Stuff!?!?! s-) Jay~

Nearly........

I moved all my original contacts as suggested, to the new folder, then tried to import the new ones into the original (now empty) folder. It still added the contacts to the existing ones although they were in a different folder.

Beginning to think it's not possible in OE.

Hmm...I dont know why it does that. Im at home now and I have here (but dont use) OE 5. I dont even get the option to create a new folder in my contacts! Must be only in 6.
Must admit I am at a loss here....

There is a long way around it....you could just import the new contacts into one folder along with the others, and then, manually move the ones you want to keep seperate into the other folder..??? Im only speculating here...but it might work!! Jay~
