I have Windows XP and 2 accounts set up (one for myself and one for my wife). For email, my wife uses Hotmail and I use Outlook. I would like to set the default email program to the respective app. (Hotmail or Outlook) but when I change the program under my account to Outlook it also changes it under my wifes account (to Outlook). I was thinking that they would seperate.

Any ideas on this? Thanks.

This all has to do with File Associations which does not have separate settings between different profiles but rather are considered system settings.

So if you click on a "mailto:" hyperlink the file associations for "URL-Mailto:" will look at what program command line it is supposed to run. File assoications are file under the classes root section of the registry rather than the current user section which is why it is not a separate choice between users.

I believe this is correct to the best of my knowledge and if not I welcome any statement corrections.

That makes sense. However, you would think that there would be a way to make separate entries for multiple users. I'm sure this situation has come up before.
