Hi there!

I have a problem with my new kernel installation.

I compile the kernel v.2.4.19 with out errors but,

it does not create the file /lib/modules/2.4.19/modules.dep

the file is empty

so when I load a module with modprobe it can't find it

I must give all the path to load it

depmod does't seem to work.

by the way, I have suse 7.0

Thanks

Try depmod -a

Think there's also a verbose option for it.

depmod -a doesn't give an output

it doesn't seem to work

is there another way to create this file?

What's in /etc/conf.modules (might be modules.conf in newer versions)??

it's modules.conf in Suse

but doesn't seem to read the aliases i've put there

so I had to build some modules (eth0) in the kernel

please provide the exact sequence of commands u used in compiling the kernel.. typically, u should do something like this..

make menuconfig
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install

let me know...

good luck..
