PS
Hi,
I need to know if there is a big deference between 4.1 and 2.1 speakers, because I wanted to buy a 2.1 (from Creative) and I found that there price is close to 4.1 (4.1 form not well known company).
Another thing, does 2.1 require special sound card like 4.1???

Thanks for your time…

The differance would be in game, with a properly positioned 4.1 speaker setup left and right FRONT, left and right REAR, Sub in front, things like bullits actually sound like they are all around you, passing from behind as well as infront of you.

Yes your sound card needs to output at least 4.1 or more to power 4.1 speakers but nearly all motherboards circa 2003 onwards came with 5.1 or better built in.
Read your manual to find out your motherboards sound capabilities.
A seperate 5.1 soundcard can be purchased for as little as $20 if you find you only have 2.1.

2.1 (sub and two sats) is fine for general use and obviously easier to setup (no rear speakers to mount behind your left and right shoulders)
Surround sound is good but the correct positioning of the additional speakers can be problematic unless you have a smallish room where the rear speakers can be mounted relatively close behind you or you are prepared to have those rear speakers free standing and elavated.
Remember all those trailing wires, it can look a mess.
