I've done a ton of Crystal Reports against DB2 and MS SQL databases but now I'm going to do my 1st report against Oracle (version 9.2.0.6 says the DBA)

In setting up the ODBC Connection, it looks like the possible options are:

CR Oracle7
CR Oracle8
CR Oracle8 v3.6
Microsoft ODBC for Oracle
Oracle ODBC Driver

Do I need something specific for Oracle9?
Is one of the above Drivers "better" than the rest?
Which one should I chose? And Why?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
None of them..Use an Oracle 'native' connection..

You should have an 'Oracle Server' option in the list of Datasources..

( Assumptions:
Oracle Client installed - (needed even for ODBC)
Oracle Client installed before Crystal Reports
Oracle Database option chosen if custom install used
)

Sorry, I don't have anything called 'Oracle Server' in my list of Datasources..the closest thing I have is 'Oracle ODBC Driver'.

Also, when I go to Start/All Programs I do have something listed as "Oracle - OHOME817" with some other stuff shown in it's subfolders..... Is that what you are refering to when you say "Oracle Client installed - (needed even for ODBC"?

Yes..It appears that you do have a client installed ( Oracle v8.1.7, probably).

Ask your DBA to install the latest client ( ideally) and use the Add/Remove programs applet to modify your Crystal Reports installation by adding the Oracle datasource ( from the CD, custom install)...

The DBA can also show you how to configure your tnsnames.ora file...
