I have heard a rumor about the win2k Sp1 is not good or any Maxtor Hard Drive. Since I have 4 Maxtor Hard Drive for my Win2k Work Stations, so I just wonder should I install the SP1 patch file for all my Win2k machines with Maxtor Hard Drives or not.

Please Advise.

I think it is just matter of how the download works. Many people have reported problems; some none. I have had no problems and I have Maxtor hard drives, Just lucky this time I guess.

We have two computers with Maxtor drives... and have no problems installing SP1. I think it's not the drive but what the other devices on your system are. I did have a problem when my machine was a Celeron. But now I have AMD Thunderbird and it is a very happy camper!

I don't think the rumour is true. I have two Maxtor drives and had no problem

I have a maxtor harddrive that has crashed twice when I installed service pack 1. I installed service pack 1 the second time because I could not get one of the subsequent critical updates to install. The result both times is an inaccesible boot device error. So far I have not been able to get back up and running after this second crash. I ran into a note from microsoft about possibly needing to install a parallel copy of windows 2000 and installing service pack 1 on it and then tranaferring the updated files to the original main system. I've not gotten that far yet. Any one having further experience with this, your input would be appreciated.

I found the solution to this problem for me on Microsoft's web site regarding known problems with service pack 1 for win 2k professional. Serv pack 1 is updated to handle 8GB and larger drives. There is a jumper on some of the Maxtor hard drives that interferes with this upgrade and when removed all is back to normal. Mine is a 13.2GB Maxtor and when I removed the jumper other than the master / slave jumper which i left in place my problem was solved and i was able to boot up normally.
Hope this helps.
