1780 harddisk error

A friend of mine ask me to check a HDD. After installation, as a second disk or as a single disk I get the following error:

"1780 harddisk error"

From SETUP I've choosen "Automatically setup..." and in the IDE Devices the HDD is recognized. After exit I've get the same error message.

Is this HDD unsable ?

What brand of hard drive is it, what size hard drive, and what steps did you take to install it as a 2nd drive?

You need to set the first hard drive as the "master" And the second as "slave". There should be a jumper diagram on each hard drive showing you how to do this.
