I have a remote office that has 15 7940 voip phones and a 1751 router as their gateway and 3500 series switches conecting them..

A cisco engineer is trying to help me figure out why we have a constant background noise and it's gotten to the point that he wants me to "sniffer capture a voice call so he can listen to the wav file." Can someone explain this to me what he means? His english isn't the best so that's the best explanation he gave me..

I originaly thought he was talking about a packet sniffer and he just wanted to see the packet flow, but now he says he wants to "listen" to it. So how the heck do I record ??? a voice call with a sniffer?

your just capturing the encoded packets......they can be reconstructed into a wav file. send him the packets...make him figure out how to decode it. He asked for it after all.

Hi snootalope,

Sorry to bother you as I don't have an answer to your question.

BUT you may be able to help me with my problem.
I've posted a thread actually just above your under the title "VoIP CISCO 1751 and CISCO 806 Advice needed" may be you would want to reply there.

so I have an ip network working fine with a cisco1751 at HQ and severals cisco806 at branch offices.
I have VIC E/M interface card on my cisco1751 to connect to the HQ PBX. Do you think I will be able to place phone call form the HQ phone network to IP phone device connected to cisco 806 (using their IP address to configure Dial-peer VoIP as the config below show)

(at cisco1751)
dial-peer voice 1 pots
destination-pattern 2....
port 0/0
dial-peer voice 2 voip
destination-pattern 3....
session-target ipv4: 172.16.65.182 (the IP phone device at CISCO806)
