I have been running a Proliant 800 with an external Compaq 35/70dlt for a two months w/out termination. I originally received the used drive without a terminator. It seems to work fine without one. But I do not want to count on this for critical backups without termination. I have tried using a LVD active terminator and receive the following error message. 1705-Locked SCSI Bus detected system board, port2 system halted. The tape drive is the only device on attached externally. Have I missed the boat? How can this be that this server does not need termination. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this?
