I have just set up Windows Server 2003. It is running DNS, DHCP service and is acting as a Domain Controller. I have configured DHCP to use a scope of addresses. DNS seemed to set itself up on the wizard. Having added a client’s computer and user account in AD, I attempted to add the client’s laptop to the domain for testing. It will add onto the domain but the automatic IP addressing does not work. IPCONFIG /all reveal a 169.254.156.126 address. I assume it is an APIPA address?
I gave the DHCP client a static IP address in the same range as the DHCP server scope and set the DNS server too. It then worked so I know the Windows firewall is not blocking the UDP port on the client and the physical set up is all ok. I can ping it fine.
Can anyone give any advice on what to try next? I'm a little confused as to why it will not work. Re-booting didn't work on the server and releasing /renewing didn't work either. Have I set something up incorrectly on the server?
