We have a 1603r router thats been on a shelf for a while but that i would
now like to use. However, on boot i get the following messages:

boot of "cisco2-c1600" using boot helper "eprom:c1600-rboot-r.120-3.T"
failed
loadprog: error - on file open
boot: cannot load "cisco2-C1600"

Then it seems to try and boot from flash:

device does not contain a valid magic number
boot: cannot open "flash:"
boot: cannot determine first file on device "flash:"

In the end it does boot to a prompt: routername<boot>>
The wic1T card is not recognised though.
Is this a recoverable situation?
Any help would be greatly appreciated on the matter.
Thanx, ric.

either the flash was never loaded with an IOS or it is corrupted. A simple reload of the IOS should fix it. Or swap the flash card from another 1600 that works as a test.

thankx for the reponse mike,
i don't have another router to swap flash cards with, nor do i have a copy of the IOS. will i have to buy a new one from cisco?
ric.

sorry for my complete lack of knowledge on this subject, if it's electric in my company then i have to sort it out.

If the router is under maintence.. then you should have access to the CCO at cisco.com If not, then I might suggest to open a contract on the router ( around 300 bucks for the year) and this gives a nice safety net. You can then download the IOS for *free* and use the CCO to open a TAC ( technical assistance) order for help with any troubles. If the router ends up being bad, they will replace it under the contract.
