I bought a Enet card for my router but it says unknown interface when it boots up.

Can the 1601-R use an Enet card in its slot?

It's likely either:

1. The module is not supported at all in that router.
2. The IOS level is not high enough to support the module.

Let me know the Cisco part number and the IOS level of your router and I can tell you what you need.

well my IOS is 12.1(3)T. i will get the part number later.

If it helps you can sometimes get the part number from the router when you issue the 'show diag' command.

Hope this helps

sorry i think that the T1 Card forgot i took the WIC-1ENET card out the router. So i have to get the part number off the box when i get home.

I don't actually recognise that. I would expect it would begin with something like WIC-xxxxxxx

If your question is can you use the wic-1enet in a 1600 pretty sure that card will only work with the 1700 series routers.

i found out why my IOS is too old :

The Cisco WIC-1ENET card requires Cisco IOS Release 12.2(2)XJ or later

Does anybody have software for the 1601-R that is 12.2(2)XJ or later?

The Cisco Wic-1enet also requires a 1700 series router....
