I have been doing this for years, but am always open to working smarter not harder so I thought I would ask how others would do this. there are always new products out there i may not have heard about.

Retail store kiosk about 6' tall needs one CAT5e cable run to it coming down from a 14' drop ceiling. Standard ceiling tile grid with hard ceiling about 6' above the drop ceiling. Spanning this gap from kiosk top to drop ceiling, any new, cost effective products I might know about that can help me out here? I can not rely on the kiosk to hold much weight, and am thinking power pole from floor through drop ceiling, secured via strut to the ceilings metal support beams that hang down about 3' from the flat metal ceiling. Just your standard retail ceiling like wall marts, but with drop ceiling in below it, and only about 18' high hard with 14' high drop.

I wish I could just hang a piece of PVC through the drop ceiling, but am worried about NEC as it must be to code.

My previous company has done several of these type installations in banks and we always used power poles.
Note that our 'infrastructure expert' was a BICSI-standard fanatic so I assume that is the correct solution.

A piece of EMT conduit would be lighter and less costly - with lots of strapping hardware options available.

Obviously, plenum cable if plenum ceiling.

..I wish I could just hang a piece of PVC through the drop ceiling...through the ceiling-no

I like mforrence's idea of EMT. 1/2" for your 1 cable (only 17% fill)with extra pull rope...just in case.

You could also use some greenfield (flex conduit) with an electrical box on the end. I have used this before and works great. The kiosk can move a little and not effect the communication.

The flex conduit application sounds interesting, will have to check it against the NEC.
