I've got a group of about 15 identical XP Pro machines on the network. On one that has been detecting quite hapilly a 128 meg USB drive for months there has been (once) a digital camera plugged in. Now the USB drive will not work on that machine. On any of the other machines it is perfectly happy.

The camera worked fine and other Usb drives still work fine but not that one. WHY WHY WHY????????????/

which USB port did you plug it into? are you using the same port on the other machines?

some cameras will not be recognized if there are too many usb devices attached. HP has a tendency to want exclusive use of some usb ports (especially when it come to flash drives or other usb connected drives.

Check in Device Manager and see if your USB Controllers are working properly, go from there.

When you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, the USB 2.0 drivers do not appear to update

Uninstall the Camera from Device Manager if it is still there...that may help.

NOTE

We've done the uninstall's and tested front and rear USB ports. When I get to work I'm going to try some of Linney's ideas.

Thanks again for the ideas. We've got it working. The problem is still there though. It's a clash between the USB 1 and the USB 2 drivers or something. Currently told the system to treat everything as USB 1 and it's working. Recon we will stop at that.
