My customer has a problem with some (at least) excel files (office 97) on computers with hp1200's (using pcl6) and windows 98. The computers with win xp are fine. A message is diplayed to the effect that there is insufficient memory. What's the answer to this? It's very specific, only excel and only win98.

Hi Peter,

1> Could also try a post in the office forum on the chance it's an excel related issue vs a printer issue.

2> Could try printing direct instead of spooling to get a sense of whether the problem might be related to spooling in some way.

3> Properties, Finishing tab, has faster printing settings.
experiment with lower resolution settings to try to reduce memory requirements.

4> Try spool data format at raw if it's not there already.

More extreme-"for lack of anything else to try" ideas

5> Remove and reinstall printer on theory it might relate to win98 file corruption issues (but if issue is happening on several machines I wouldn't have high hopes for that).
(I have gone to the extreme of uninstalling all hp devices (laserjet and deskjet), rebooting machine, removing residual hp directories, rebooting again and using jv16 powertools to remove any leftover hp links in registry, and then reboot and reinstall everything to get my pcl 6 driver working again).

6> Do an install of just driver (i think inf file? ) without any toolbox support stuff to see if "extras" are interfering.

7> HP website, download and try PCL 5 driver ( with and/or without extra tool stuff ).

Im using win98 and a 1200-I've not experienced a situation like yours, these are things I would try if confronted with that situation.
