12 pt font in indesign prints out as 16 pt font?

My manuscript lay out in indesign is in a typed 12 pt font and when I print it out it prints in 16 pt?

Any reason why?

Explanations and advise is greatly appreciated.

Does the same scaling happen when printing a common font like Arial? Do any other objects print at larger scale (images, shapes, etc)? If not, your 12pt font might have been designed to print larger than normal.
